Desatanization of Ukraine and Europe as Russia's New Action Point. Russian Media Monitoring Report, 17-23 October 2022

Ukraine has sunk into darkness while Europe, which has been taken over by satanists, is suffering from deforestation. Only Russia’s future is bright for it was able to break free of the grasp of Anglo-Saxon democracy – all thanks to Putin and Surovkin. This monitoring report covers these and other topics of the disinformation spread by Russian state media and online parajournalists to manipulate public opinion.

Panic-Struck Ukraine

Last week, Russian political observers picked up the same tune claiming that Ukraine was allegedly struck by unprecedented “panic” and “hysteria”. Such was the reaction, they said, to massive missile strikes inflicted on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure: “Our sources in Kiev have confirmed that panic is spreading like forest fire — lots of people stand in awe horrified by our high-intensity missile strikes on all major cities”.

Russian propagandists boasted about the precision of their long-range weapons and smirked at the deaths of civilians: “Russia's armed forces have hit communications targets and military industrial facilities with long-range weapons. The precision is quite outstanding. There were no more than twenty civilian casualties — an acceptable price for a strike of such scale”. The Russians were elated by the suffering of Ukrainian people, and they called for turning up the heat for Ukraine’s cities: “The most important thing now is not to be distracted by pity and not to feel bad for “those poor innocent people”. The observers painted a gloomy picture for Ukraine with an imminent “collapse” on the horizon and warned that once the energy supply and distribution network crumbles, the Russians would target the transport network next: “When the mission to inflict irreparable damage to the energy infrastructure is complete, the free long-range strike assets will probably be used to target Ukraine's logistics such as train depots and railway hubs. In other words, paralyzing their transportation capabilities would be the most obvious thing to do next”.

The Kremlin propagandists bowed in respect to the military genius of the recently appointed Commander-In-Chief of the occupation forces Surovkin and admired Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. According to their version, Putin once again tricked Western nations and ordered Russian forces to proceed slowly to leave the world guessing: “Putin’s calculated approach to the operation in Ukraine deserves admiration. The rush for a quick victory might have mobilized all Western powers against Russia”.

Despite the massive launches of Russian long-range weapons Ukraine’s energy system has maintained integrity and remained under control. “Apocalypse isn't now and it isn't tomorrow either. I can’t even imagine what it would take to actually happen” says Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, CEO of “Ukrenergo” National Power Company. The Ukrainian society is also far from losing head: the people and businesses are adapting to the new reality and learning to co-exist with a blood-thirsty neighbor in the northeast.

American Spies and Satanists Take Over Europe

Last week, there was a lot of scary propagandist talk about the mythical cult of Satan which was allegedly popular in Europe following the calls for “desatanisation of Ukraine”: “The sodomitic values and denial of family traditions by the West which align with the beliefs of satanists and godless fanatics is a losing proposition”.

Russian media parroted the hackneyed lines claiming that there was no place for the concept of sovereignty in the the western “Anglo-Saxon” model of development: “In fact, the centuries-old success story of the West is based on the replication of a fairly simple behavior pattern which has so far worked quite effectively. Find a territory where the naive natives do not value what they have. Come bearing the gifts of “freedom and civilization” which they gladly accept. Ask nothing in return except modest “interest on investment”. And if they dare resist, as they often would, seize what is theirs or eradicate them once and for all”.

They illustrated their ideas with narratives about the American occupation of Germany after World War II: “Their country is now infested with American military bases — if this isn't occupation, what is? The memory of mass eradication of their ancestors by the Americans and the British who bombed Germany into rubble at the end of WWII is still there”, “the corrupt political system built by the Americans was designed to promote anti-people policies of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany. According to Russian propaganda, Olaf Scholz and other German public figures belong to “the nomenklatura” rather pursue their own political agenda”.

European Forests to Vanish Due to Sanctions Against Russia

Russian propagandist media contributors are getting worried about the plans to cap the price of Russia's oil and gas exports: “Western leaders are shooting themselves in the foot by capping Russian oil prices”, “the good intentions of Russia oil-price cap supporters may disrupt the global economy”, “I cannot reasonably expect a single barrel of Russian oil to be sold at a fixed price”.

The propagandists boldly stated that “European countries are likely to continue buying Russian oil, but this time it will be come in a cocktail from India sold with a sizable margin”, “The G7 price cap on Russian oil prices is next to useless as Russia can easily circumvent it by relying on its own tanker fleet or enlisting the help of Asian carriers and underwriters”. They could not resist from spreading scare tales about global ripple effects of the new sanctions: “This will also reduce the global oil supply by 1-2% whipping the “black gold” prices and sending inflation through the roof as the world braces for global recession”.

The propagandists convinced the readers that discounts on energy resources offered to Russia-friendly states were not draining the country's budget and had no effect on the well-being of average citizens: “China and India, the principal consumers [of Russian hydrocarbons], are already taking advantage of the discounts which have helped them to boost their energy exports from Russia. Our country can certainly afford such generous discounts as the market price of the oil is much higher than the figure used for budget planning", “the sanctions serve no practical purpose, and stressed that they have zero effect on Russia and its citizens”.

Russian media pretend to care about Europe’s environment while expressing concerns about the attempts to curb energy dependence on Russia by burning wood: ”Europe largely relies on forests to absorb its CO2 emissions. Irresponsible harvesting practices may endanger biodiversity and hamper the efforts to reverse climate change. Toxic substances produced by wood-fired furnaces are linked to a host of dangerous diseases”, “after clearing the brushwood from the forests they started cutting down trees to keep the fire burning”.

Also in the News:

Russian media warned about an imminent war between Greece and Turkey which was being provoked by the USA: “According to experts, a full-scale military conflict between Greece and Turkey is unlikely to bring any tangible benefits for either side. Greece is being guided by the USA as to further steps to provoke a conflict in the Aegean Sea thus becoming a convenient instrument of the West for taming Turkey”.

They once again said that Poland intends to annex a part of Ukraine and accused Warsaw of deliberate efforts to keep the war going: “The situation is spiraling out of control. Instead of trying to reduce the degree of the conflict, the Polish political elite are doing everything they can to turn the crisis into a disaster. They claim that such an outcome could be averted “if only Poland stopped sticking its finger into the Ukrainian pie”. However, Poland keeps reiterating its intentions to pave way for Western Ukraine's integration into Poland”.

The Methodology

We have built a corpus of all the materials from Russian websites and those maintained by the occupation force (almost 22,000 news items) for our weekly disinformation monitoring report. Each paragraph was processed by the algorithm which defines its topic automatically. The resulting topics (i.e. groups with similar content) were short-listed by the topics relating to the war or its consequences for Russia. The number of mentions of a certain topic was then counted for each publication. Our conclusions are based on the respective findings and the quotes from paragraphs referring to each topic.

We used materials from tass.ru, riafan.ru, lenta.ru, russian.rt.com, aif.ru, life.ru, slovodel.com, news-front.info, kommersant.ru, ruinformer.com, politnavigator.net, donbasstoday.ru, sevastopol.su, politobzor.net, naspravdi.info, antifashist.com, kafanews.com, anna-news.info, lugansk1.info, c-inform.info, dnr-pravda.ru, dni.ru, rusdnepr.ru, 3652.ru, comitet.su, odnarodyna.org, vsednr.ru, time-news.net, xvesti.ru, sobytiya.info, doneck-news.com, meridian.in.ua, dnr24.com
